One of the oldest rowing clubs in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the Potomac Boat Club, uses the river for training, competitions, and a variety of events. River cruises are also common.

Alongside the Potomac River on the Arlington side, you can find the Potomac Heritage Trail, a network of historic hiking and equestrian routes that is managed by the National Park Service, as well as the Potomac Overlook Regional Park.
